That is very interesting video! thanks for sharing it with us. That problem i guess is very straight forward but hard drive broken for $580.00? geeeezzz! where did they get that virus from? thats extreme. yes it will be good to have a licensing thing for computer repairers and also maybe prices regulation? we get customers thinking to have a laptop dc connector fixed is only worth $20.00 have a good day!

It's a sad world in which people take advantage of other people's lack of knowledge.

It reminds me of all the stories of mechanics taking advantage of women who didn't know much about cars, or the HVAC guy selling an expensive water heater to a little old lady when a fix would have been better and cheaper.

I've butted heads OVER and OVER with computer repair techs about my desire for all computer repair shops to be licensed (and independent technician licensing). Most computer techs hate me for it. Not surprisingly, most non-computer-techs agree with me though.

If a shop thought that their license would be in jeopardy when caught doing something like this, I think things would be different.

If I had my way, when a computer repair company is found to be cheating clients, they would have their license taken away for good after 3 strikes, never able to practice IT again. There would be testing to get the license, and lots of random testing and "hidden video" checks on licensed techs.

Thats great he did some good service, I know I'd do the same, but I can only imagine some of the people out there that just wait and itch for people to come in and take advantage of that type of situation.
